Liverpool could still make huge signing in January even if star player signs new contract

Liverpool are reportedly targeting a January transfer amid uncertainies over the futures of several key players.

Arne Slot has had an impressive start to the season, with his team currently leading the Premier League by eight points.

In Europe, Liverpool remain the only team with a perfect record in the UEFA Champions League, topping their group with 15 points.

Despite this strong beginning, fans are still concerned due to the uncertain futures of key players Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. All three will be free agents in the summer, as their contracts are set to expire, and negotiations with the club have yet to yield any results.

With the January transfer window approaching, reports suggest that Liverpool may be eyeing a new addition to their squad. According to The Echo, Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo has stated that Liverpool are monitoring Sevilla defender Loic Bade, especially as rumors swirl about Van Dijk potentially extending his contract.

Bade is said to have a release clause of £50 million, and Sevilla are reportedly open to offers for both him and forward Dodi Lukebakio due to financial constraints. It is also suggested that both players could depart in January as Sevilla aims to generate profit.

Last month, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk was asked about his future. He responded, “My full focus is on Liverpool, concentrating on the games ahead and nothing else. I don’t know what the future holds right now. All I can say is that discussions have started, and we’ll see how things progress. I feel great—physically and mentally—and I’m enjoying my time.”

The 33-year-old further explained, “I have no idea what the future will bring, but as I said earlier, conversations are happening with the right people, and when it’s time to make a decision, you’ll hear about it. Right now, my focus and commitment are entirely on Liverpool and having a successful season. As for my form, I feel good, but I prefer to let others speak. It’s not just me keeping clean sheets, it’s a team effort. Yes, I’m the captain, but I’m feeling great.”
