For the third consecutive La Liga match, FC Barcelona failed to secure a victory, losing 1-2 to relegation-threatened Las Palmas at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
After a lackluster first half, in which they also lost Alejandro Balde to injury, Barcelona fell behind early in the second half when former player Sandro Ramirez scored to give Las Palmas the lead.
Raphinha equalized for the Blaugrana, but the score didn’t last long as Fabio Silva netted the eventual winning goal for Las Palmas.
Hansi Flick Critical of Performance
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick was frank in his post-match comments, admitting that his team didn’t perform well against Las Palmas. He particularly criticized their inability to capitalize on created chances, stating:
“We didn’t play well. The team tried for a good result, but today was not our day. We were ineffective and failed to take advantage of the opportunities we had.”
Flick continued, saying: “We did create chances in the second half, but typically we create more.”
Reflecting on the team’s struggles in La Liga, where they’ve now gone three games without a win, Flick remarked:
“When we control the game, we can play well and generate chances, but when we don’t, that’s when we struggle. Previously, it was easier to generate chances and score, but now it’s different. Today, we didn’t score, and we need to change that. We have to defend better, and if you don’t score, it’s harder to keep a clean sheet. It’s a team issue, not just a defense issue.”
He added, “Now we need to regroup and refocus. We have tough games ahead in La Liga, then Dortmund…”
When asked if Marc Casado’s absence and Gavi’s inclusion in the starting lineup had an impact, he responded:
“I don’t want to discuss any specific player. As a team, we could have performed better, and that’s why we didn’t win.”
On Lamine Yamal’s return after recovering from injury, Flick commented:
“After two weeks without training with the team, it’s good for him to come back and play a few minutes, especially with the upcoming game against Mallorca. It’s positive that he played 45 minutes and could potentially start against Mallorca.”
