Athletic Club forward Nico Williams was the subject of transfer rumors this summer, with Barcelona interested in signing the Spain international. However, Williams ultimately opted to remain with Athletic Club for the 2024-25 season.
“The boy had an outstanding year and confirmed it by being the best player in the European Championships,” Félix Tainta and Juan Oyaga told AS.
“Naturally, there’s been a lot of movement and travel, and it’s all happened in a short time. By the end of the transfer window, there’s some stress, but we enjoy it. The player has decided to stay; he wanted to spend another year and keep working.”
Williams will remain with Athletic for the 2024-25 season, but speculation surrounding a potential transfer may resurface next summer. Reports suggest that Barcelona could renew their interest in signing him next year. According to his agents, the 21-year-old chose to stay in the Basque Country for another season with Athletic, but rumors indicate that Barcelona may pursue him again in the future, leading to another transfer saga.
