Darwin Nunez posts cryptic message on Instagram after being slammed by Liverpool fans over ‘terrible’ Girona performance

Darwin Nunez has posted a cryptic message on Instagram following criticism of his recent performances for Liverpool.

Darwin Nunez, 25, has faced criticism from Liverpool fans due to his ongoing struggles in front of goal. The Uruguayan striker has scored only three goals across all competitions this season, despite making 19 appearances for Arne Slot’s team. He failed to find the net again in Liverpool’s narrow 1-0 Champions League victory over Girona on Tuesday, a result that nearly guarantees them a spot in the top eight of the group stage.

Slot’s team has won all six of their European matches this season and is now close to bypassing the play-off round. With two games left, Liverpool will secure a direct place in the last 16 if results go in their favor on Wednesday night.

Nunez is now in his third season with Liverpool after joining from Benfica for £64 million in 2022, and the pressure from fans at Anfield is mounting. One supporter expressed frustration on X, saying, “I’m happy with the scrappy win, but it’s time to admit Darwin Nunez is a terrible footballer, and the club needs to move on from him. I appreciate his passion, but ultimately, it’s about scoring goals. He’s been here for three seasons and hasn’t improved.”

Another fan shared similar discontent, adding, “Nunez’s recent performances against Newcastle and Girona were as poor as anything from [Rickie] Lambert, [Fabio] Borini, [Mario] Balotelli, [Andy] Carroll, or [David] Ngog. He should be benched for an extended period. Give someone else a chance.”

In response, Nunez has posted several messages on social media, including a cryptic one that has caught attention.

Nunez responded to the criticism by expressing gratitude to the supporters, writing on his Instagram story, “They are not all, they are some. Thank you Reds for your support, we are all still together!” He accompanied this message with an image of himself from the Girona match.

He also shared a photo with the word “resilience” written underneath it. Later, Nunez posted on X, saying, “Together we stand, ready for what’s next!”

In addition to topping the Champions League table, Liverpool is leading the Premier League, although their advantage was reduced to four points after Chelsea’s victory, with the Merseyside derby being canceled due to Storm Darragh.

Liverpool’s next match is against Fulham at home on Saturday, and Nunez’s spot in the starting lineup could be in jeopardy with Diogo Jota having returned to training before the Girona win.
