Liverpool get double suspension boost but Slot raises alarm bells with injury news after Fulham
Things could have gone disastrously worse for Liverpool after they were reduced to 10 men just 17 minutes into the game.
However, Arne Slot’s title-contending team managed to regroup and fought back to secure a draw, demonstrating remarkable determination.
Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City may view this as a missed opportunity for Liverpool, and they are justified in doing so given the high level of consistency the Merseysiders have set this season.
For Liverpool supporters, though, this performance could be seen as further evidence of their potential title challenge.
Only time will tell how this plays out.
Arne Slot will serve a suspension against Southampton
Liverpool will have to continue without Arne Slot for their League Cup quarter-final, as he has received a one-match ban for accumulating three yellow cards (following bookings against Arsenal and Chelsea) on Saturday.
According to Daily Mail reporter Lewis Steele on X (formerly Twitter), the touchline ban will not extend to their upcoming Premier League match against Tottenham.
The Dutch coach received the yellow card for expressing frustration over referee Tony Harrington’s decision to book Curtis Jones in the second half.
With all due respect to Southampton, we would certainly prefer to have our manager back in the dugout to help us return to winning form in the Premier League.
Is Andy Robertson injured?
The good news for Andy Robertson is that his suspension for a red card, due to denying a goalscoring opportunity (after fouling Harry Wilson), was pre-determined. The Scotland international will serve a one-game ban against Russell Martin’s struggling Southampton in the League Cup.
However, there were some concerns raised about the 30-year-old after the 2-2 draw with Fulham, which may cause some worry regarding his future availability.
Arne Slot’s comments were relayed by Hayters TV: “If you get a kick like this, two studs on the knee, that can hurt for a few minutes. We were hoping it would get better if he kept running. I only had one defender on the bench, who is not a left-back, so you’re hoping he could manage through it. But I first noticed he wasn’t quite himself when they put the ball in behind and he started running, only to be able to head it back to Alisson. I thought, ‘Let’s see how this goes,’ but soon after, he conceded the red card.”
Slot added, “Nothing to blame him for, the character to want to continue. Unfortunately, it led to a deserved red card.”
While Robertson’s injury may not be serious enough to keep him out for weeks, it’s certainly something to monitor, especially given the lack of backup options at left-back with Kostas Tsimikas still recovering.
