Recently, Newcastle United, an English football team, reportedly made an offer to acquire Ferran Torres from Barcelona, but the Catalan club has rejected the proposal.
According to Spanish reports, Barcelona is looking to sell off some players to raise money for their own transfer activities. In this situation, Newcastle’s bid for Ferran Torres was around 15 million euros, or 12.8 million pounds. Torres joined Barcelona in January 2022 for a maximum fee of 55 million euros. Due to his inconsistent performance and injury issues at Camp Nou, Barcelona is considering selling him to recover part of their investment.
Newcastle, now among the wealthiest football clubs globally following its acquisition by Saudi investors, is actively pursuing top-quality players to strengthen their squad. Ferran Torres is a key target for them this summer.
However, Barcelona is reportedly asking for between 20-25 million euros for Torres, so Newcastle’s offer of 15 million euros falls short of their expectations. This gap suggests that the clubs have not yet agreed on the transfer fee.
Torres is under contract with Barcelona until 2027. Considering Barcelona’s need to enhance their financial situation and strengthen their squad for the upcoming season, Torres’ departure from Camp Nou appears more probable.
If the transfer is completed, Newcastle would gain a young player with considerable potential and experience from a top European club. Torres could become a crucial part of Newcastle’s long-term strategy.
However, the current disagreement over the transfer fee underscores that there are still obstacles to address. Both clubs will need to continue negotiations to finalize the deal soon.
