Liverpool could suffer major blow that could derail their Premier League title bid

Liverpool could suffer a major blow that no-one saw coming in what could derail their season.

Liverpool are performing exceptionally well under Arne Slot, who has made a remarkable start to his tenure at Anfield. Slot’s team is currently leading both the Premier League and the Champions League as they compete on four fronts this season.

The Dutch manager has received support from fellow countryman John Heitinga, who joined Liverpool in the summer. Heitinga, a former Everton player, left West Ham United after the 2023/24 season to reunite with Slot at Liverpool.

However, he may leave Liverpool before the season concludes. According to Football Insider, Heitinga is a top candidate to become the new manager of West Bromwich Albion after Carlos Corberan’s departure to Valencia. It is suggested that Heitinga’s Premier League experience and progressive management style make him an appealing choice for West Brom, who are eager to maintain their promotion push.

West Brom are currently in seventh place in the Championship, tied on points with sixth-placed Middlesbrough.

Since joining Liverpool, Heitinga has built his reputation as a coach, earning high praise from Slot, who commended the 41-year-old’s contributions. The Reds manager believes Ajax made a significant error by not appointing Heitinga as their permanent head coach, stating, “Sven Mislintat did not choose Heitinga as head coach at the time, and he left Ajax because of that. Liverpool is now benefiting from that decision. It seems they didn’t realize in Amsterdam they had a fantastic coach already within the club.”

Should Heitinga leave Liverpool for West Brom, it would be a major setback for both Slot and the club, considering the key role he has played since joining as an assistant coach.
