Even before the new season officially started, Liverpool was already facing the familiar issue of injuries disrupting their preparations. Jurgen Klopp’s last year at Anfield was marred by injuries to key players, and it seems this problem is reoccurring. This time, it’s young talent Jayden Danns who is affected.
According to Liverpool insider David Lynch’s Substack blog, the 18-year-old forward’s back injury will keep him sidelined until October. This setback not only hinders Liverpool’s plans to loan him out for the 2024–2025 season but also causes him to miss the team’s preseason tour in the United States.
The timing couldn’t have been worse for Danns. Missing the preseason meant he missed a crucial chance to impress new manager Arne Slot, potentially affecting his chances of making the squad next season. Earlier in the year, an injury issue had thrust Danns into Liverpool’s senior team, where he made an impressive debut, played in the Carabao Cup final, and scored twice in an FA Cup win over Southampton. Given his strong start in elite football, it seemed he was ready for more opportunities based on his performance.
Danns would have had a crucial role in the U.S. tour if he had been fit, as Slot was keen to assess the club’s young talent. Instead, he is left to rue his bad luck, knowing this injury has cost him a key development period. For now, the focus must be on recovery. If all goes well, Danns could secure a loan move during the winter transfer window, allowing him to continue his promising progress at Liverpool.
