Mohamed Salah has issued an interesting response to a question regarding his Liverpool contract situation.
Salah, 32, will be out of contract at the end of the 2024/25 season, with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold facing the same situation. Van Dijk, 33, has remained quiet about his contract, while Alexander-Arnold, 26, has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid. However, Salah has been the most vocal of the three.
After Liverpool’s 3-2 victory over Southampton at St Mary’s on November 24, Salah discussed his future with reporters outside the stadium, admitting that he felt “more in than out.”
“I’ve been at the club for many years,” Salah said outside St Mary’s. “There’s no club like this, but in the end, it’s not up to me. As I mentioned before, it’s December, and I haven’t received any information about my future yet.”
When asked if he was disappointed by the situation, he responded, “Of course… let’s wait and see.”
Now, he has provided an update on his situation.
On Sunday, Salah scored and assisted twice in Liverpool’s 5-0 victory over West Ham, leaving the team eight points ahead of second-place Nottingham Forest, with one game in hand. However, all attention was on Salah’s post-match interview with Sky Sports, where the topic of his future naturally came up.
When asked if he was “hoping to be able to give some good news soon,” the 32-year-old gave a straightforward response.
“We are far from that [agreeing on a new contract],” Salah said.
“But again, I don’t want to say anything to the media that might lead to speculation. Nothing has really changed, and right now, I’m focused on the team.”
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, the forward has not let it negatively impact his performance. Salah currently leads the Premier League’s goalscoring chart with 17 goals in 18 league appearances, along with 13 assists.
Liverpool’s next match will be at Anfield on January 5 against Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United, marking the first of eight fixtures for the team in January 2025.
