Liverpool fans have been reacting on social media after Darwin Nunez’s apparent activity on Instagram.
Liverpool has enjoyed a strong start to the 2024/25 season under new manager Arne Slot, sitting comfortably at the top of both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
However, despite their excellent form, several key players have been linked with moves away as the January transfer window has opened.
Recently, reports surfaced suggesting that Liverpool had received an offer from Italian Serie A club AC Milan for striker Darwin Nunez.
Nunez has faced difficulties since his high-profile transfer from Benfica to Anfield in the summer of 2022.
According to Italian outlet AC Milan TMN, Milan has approached Liverpool with a proposal for a loan deal that includes an obligation to buy.
Milan is reportedly offering €5 million upfront for a six-month loan, with an eventual obligation to purchase Nunez for €45 million.
On Thursday, observant social media users noticed that Nunez had seemingly ‘liked’ an Instagram story featuring him wearing a Milan shirt (which was edited onto the Uruguayan).
Fans reacted on social media, with one stating: “Darwin Nunez liking an Instagram story linking him with AC Milan… The transfer window is definitely open.”
Another wrote: “Think we’re overreacting about an Instagram like, lads.”
A third fan suggested: “Sell and buy Isak or Gyokeres.”
So far in the 2024/25 season, Darwin Nunez has scored four goals and provided three assists in 23 matches across all competitions, placing him behind Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, and Diogo Jota in Arne Slot’s lineup.
What has Arne Slot said about Darwin Nunez?
Earlier in the season, Slot commented on Nunez, stating: “For me, he has impact. He hasn’t scored as many goals as he would like… but he makes a difference with his work-rate. He’s part of a team that scores a lot of goals and is winning frequently.
“Of course, as a striker, you’d want to score more goals, and that’s something he desires as well. But I’m not just judging Mohamed Salah based on his goals or Darwin based on his goals—I’m also evaluating them on their work-rate and what they contribute to the team.”
Liverpool will return to Premier League action this weekend, facing Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
