Salah, who ranks fourth in Liverpool’s all-time goal-scoring list, is set to become a free agent this summer, and his contract situation has sparked considerable discussion recently.
Despite the ongoing speculation, the Egyptian forward has remained focused on his performances, netting 20 goals and helping Liverpool rise to the top of both the Premier League and the Champions League.
In November, he openly stated that the club had not made him an offer, and last month, he reiterated that there had been no updates on his contract.
Ahead of Liverpool’s match against Manchester United at Anfield, Salah spoke with Patrick Davison of Sky Sports and mentioned it was his “last year in the club.”
When questioned further on this comment, Salah clarified, “So far? Yes. With six months left, there has been no progress, and we’re far from reaching any agreement. We’ll just have to wait and see.”
A recent report from Foot Mercato indicates that Paris Saint-Germain is closely monitoring the situation, with Salah’s representatives reportedly in “ongoing talks” with the French club.
Although clubs in Saudi Arabia have shown interest in Salah, it is noted that “no club has taken any definitive action” to bring him to the Middle East.
The report states that Salah’s main goal is still to extend his contract with Liverpool and “continue his journey” in the Premier League. However, it’s suggested that he has been frustrated by a lack of progress, and his decision to publicly discuss his situation may be a strategy to apply pressure on both the club and his representatives.
Despite the ongoing contract discussions, Salah, along with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, is expected to leave Liverpool, but the Egyptian forward is making a conscious effort to stay focused on his performance on the field.
Salah has been one of the standout players in the Premier League this season, maintaining a high level of consistency. When asked about staying focused despite the contract situation, he said, “What I tell myself is, if these are the last six months, what do you want your future to look like? Do you want to look back and say you were worried or stressed about the contract, or do you want to say you had an amazing season? That’s what keeps me focused. If I ever feel distracted, I remind myself that I want to look back and say I had an incredible season. That’s my goal.”
