Liverpool ready to sanction first January exit as ‘ongoing talks’ with club over forgotten player confirmed

Liverpool could be set to see a forgotten player leave in the January transfer window as Arne Slot looks to freshen his squad for the second half of the Premier League season.

Slot, 46, has made a significant impact at Liverpool since taking over from Jurgen Klopp after the 2023/24 season. The Reds are currently leading the Premier League, topping their Champions League group with 36 teams, and are in the Carabao Cup semi-final.

However, one of the challenges Slot encountered was the limited transfer activity during the summer window.

Liverpool attempted but failed to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, though Ryan Gravenberch has since proven valuable in the ‘number six’ role.

Federico Chiesa was the only summer signing, but he has not impressed in his four appearances under Slot.

Although Liverpool agreed to a deal for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili worth up to £29m (per BBC Sport), he will not join until the start of the 2025/26 season.

Mamardashvili will join an already strong goalkeeping squad with Alisson, Caoimhín Kelleher, and third-choice Vitezslav Jaros next summer. Meanwhile, another goalkeeper, Marcelo Pitaluga, could be set to leave Liverpool during the January transfer window, as he may depart from his current loan at Scottish Championship side Livingston, according to Liverpool.com.
