Liverpool offer Trent Alexander-Arnold astronomical contract to snub Real Madrid as details of stunning deal leaked

Liverpool have reportedly offered Trent Alexander-Arnold a huge amount of money to sign a new deal at the club.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, 26, is one of three Liverpool players—along with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk—whose current contracts are set to expire in June 2025.

On December 31, Paul Joyce of The Times reported that Liverpool turned down an approach from Real Madrid for the right-back.

Madrid “reached out” to Liverpool, but their interest in Alexander-Arnold was quickly dismissed.

The report also mentioned that Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold’s representatives have been in discussions about a new contract for several months.

According to the Mirror, the Premier League leaders have now offered Alexander-Arnold a five-year contract worth £78 million to encourage him to remain at Anfield.

While Madrid is believed to have made a similar offer of £300,000 per week, they could offer a substantial signing-on fee, as he would join on a free transfer.

Madrid even proposed £20 million to acquire the player in the January transfer window, but Liverpool dismissed it as “non-negotiable” as they are currently competing for the title.

The report also indicates that Alexander-Arnold has not demanded the captain’s armband, contrary to some claims that suggested this was part of his contract negotiations.

This will likely be seen as a positive sign by Liverpool fans who are hoping their homegrown talent stays at the club. Alexander-Arnold is expected to start in tomorrow’s Premier League match against Manchester United at Anfield. A win would see Arne Slot’s side extend their lead to eight points over second-place Arsenal.

Unlike 32-year-old Salah, who has strategically used the media in recent months, Alexander-Arnold has remained relatively quiet about his situation.

However, he did address the topic in September, saying, “I have signed four or five contract extensions, and none of those were played out in public – and this one won’t be either.”

Slot, 46, has reaffirmed the player’s “commitment” to Liverpool amid ongoing speculation about his future.

“I can tell you that he’s playing on Sunday, and hopefully, he’ll bring the same performances as he has in the past six months,” Slot said in a Friday press conference.

“I think everyone saw how excellent his first half of the season was, how much he’s invested here, and how eager he is to win. I see him working every day on the training ground. He is fully committed to us, and he will play on Sunday.”
