Man Utd fans demand player to be sold after latest club announcement causes social media meltdown

Manchester United fans have called for one player to be allowed to leave the club after an announcement on social media.

United will begin their Premier League campaign on Friday with a home match against Fulham at Old Trafford. However, they will be missing left-back Luke Shaw, who was not considered fit to play against Manchester City in the Community Shield last weekend.

United have confirmed that Shaw has sustained a calf injury, which will keep him sidelined until at least the international break in September. The club’s statement indicates: “Luke Shaw will be absent from the initial Premier League fixtures due to a calf injury he incurred at the beginning of pre-season training.”

“He is diligently working on his rehabilitation with the aim of being available after the first international break.”

Shaw had just resumed training after playing 90 minutes in the Euro 2024 final against Spain on July 13, his first game since February due to a hamstring injury. Despite United fans’ sympathy for his situation and recognizing him as a crucial player when healthy, some are now questioning whether his long-term future should be with the club, given the ongoing concerns about depth at left-back. One fan remarked, “This will unfortunately be Luke Shaw’s last season at Manchester United.”

A second fan commented, “Luke Shaw might be our best player after Bruno, but that’s only useful if he stays fit.” A third added, “While we support his recovery, we should be considering moving on from him entirely.”

A fourth fan said, “Luke Shaw nearly had his leg amputated. It’s definitely time to move on—it’s unfortunate that he can’t stay fit. It’s a miracle he’s even walking, let alone playing football.”

United are expected to finalize the acquisition of full-back Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich, who is capable of playing on either side. With Aaron Wan-Bissaka having left for West Ham, Mazraoui will now also compete with Diogo Dalot for the right-back position.

With Shaw sidelined and Tyrell Malacia still working on his fitness, 17-year-old Harry Amass is currently the only other natural left-back available.
