Barcelona ‘ready to sell three players immediately’ with five stars still unregistered ahead of new season

Barcelona are reportedly ready to sell three players immediately with five of their stars still unregistered with La Liga.

Barcelona will start their 2024-25 season with an away game at Valencia on Saturday. However, it’s still uncertain whether some of their players will be available for selection.

The club’s financial difficulties are well-known, and in short, they lack sufficient salary cap space to officially register some of their first-team members.

This situation involves Dani Olmo, who recently transferred from RB Leipzig for ÂŁ51 million after contributing to Spain’s victory in Euro 2024.

Inigo Martinez, Vitor Roque, Pau Victor, and Pablo Torre are currently ineligible to play in La Liga for Hansi Flick’s team.

Despite some reports, defenders Eric Garcia and Clement Lenglet are eligible to play, as players returning from loan spells are automatically registered with La Liga.

Despite their current predicament, Flick aims to secure some last-minute additions, including a left winger and possibly a right-back.

To register additional players, Barcelona must raise funds and reduce their wage bill, prompting them to seek immediate sales of three players.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the club is targeting the departures of Mikayil Faye, Clement Lenglet, and Vitor Roque in the near future.

The 20-year-old Faye had limited playing time during Barcelona’s pre-season tour in the USA and was not assigned a squad number for the Joan Gamper Trophy loss to Monaco earlier this week. Inter Milan has expressed interest in the young player.

Lenglet, who was on loan at Aston Villa last season, is contracted until 2026 with a gross salary of €16 million per season.

Barcelona’s sporting director Deco is said to have met with Lenglet’s agent to discuss a potential departure, likely through a loan deal. A temporary exit would help save funds if Barcelona only has to cover part of his wages.

Flick is interested in retaining the French defender but acknowledges the necessity of reducing his salary expenses.

Although Vitor Roque joined the club in January, the coaching staff believe he is not yet up to the required standard.

Barcelona aims to recover at least the €30 million they invested in Vitor Roque, with Sporting Lisbon, Everton, and Bournemouth showing interest.

Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg reports that Barcelona turned down an initial offer from Everton of €25 million plus €3 million in add-ons.
