Barcelona have received encouraging news regarding Ronald Araujo’s fitness after their 4-1 victory over Sevilla.
Following a 1-1 draw in the Madrid derby, La Blaugrana capitalized on the opportunity to narrow the title race. Hansi Flick’s side now sit just one point behind Atlético Madrid in second place and two behind league leaders Real Madrid after 23 matches.
Barcelona delivered another commanding performance, with Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha among the scorers. However, the night wasn’t without setbacks, as Fermin Lopez was sent off and Araujo picked up an early injury.
Lopez, who had netted Barcelona’s second goal, initially received a yellow card, but after a VAR review, it was upgraded to a red. The Spanish midfielder now faces a suspension, which could extend to three games, depending on La Liga’s ruling.
Hansi Flick addressed concerns over Ronald Araujo’s injury immediately after Barcelona’s 4-1 win against Sevilla, confirming that the defender will undergo tests in the coming days to determine the severity of the issue.
Araujo was forced off in the 22nd minute, raising fears among Barcelona fans, but Flick remains optimistic. “We expect test results tomorrow, and we hope it’s not too serious. That’s what it looks like right now,” he told Marca.
Early indications suggest Araujo could be sidelined for a short period, making him doubtful for Barcelona’s upcoming home match against an in-form Rayo Vallecano on February 17.
Eric Garcia, who replaced Araujo and scored Barcelona’s fourth goal, is expected to fill in during the Uruguayan’s absence.
Flick also commented on Fermin Lopez’s red card, stating that the young midfielder will learn from the moment, as it was the first dismissal of his career.
