Hansi Flick has openly admitted that he made a mistake in wanting to offload a Barcelona player during the January transfer window.
Initially, Flick justified the decision by stating that the player did not fit into his plans and lacked the required level for the team. According to El Nacional, the player in question was Eric Garcia, who had fallen out of favor and was placed on the transfer list, with Barcelona actively seeking a buyer.
With defenders like Ronald Araújo, Iñigo Martínez, Pau Cubarsí, and a recovering Andreas Christensen ahead of him, Garcia’s chances of securing a spot in the lineup seemed slim. A strong offer from Girona, where he had previously played on loan, made his departure seem imminent.
However, injuries to key defenders, including Christensen, Martínez, and Araújo, gave Garcia unexpected opportunities in the squad. His performances since then have impressed Flick, leading to a complete reversal of his stance. The Barcelona manager now sees Garcia as an essential part of his plans and has instructed Deco and Joan Laporta to reject any transfer offers for him.
If Barcelona were to sell a defender, Flick would reportedly prefer it to be Christensen, given his persistent injury struggles. But for now, Garcia’s future at the club appears secure, with Flick fully trusting in his abilities moving forward.
