Yamal and Raphinha tell Hansi Flick to start Barcelona substitute star in starting lineup against Atletico Madrid tonight

Barcelona takes on Atletico Madrid at Montjuic tonight in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final, a pivotal match in their season. Hansi Flick is still finalizing his starting lineup and is reportedly considering an unexpected attacking change.

According to the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, several players in the dressing room, including Yamal and Raphinha, have urged Flick to start Ferran Torres. They believe the former Valencia forward deserves a spot in the lineup due to his impressive recent performances. However, this decision could mean benching Lewandowski, sparking debate within the club.

Torres has consistently impressed, whether starting or coming off the bench, showcasing speed, movement, and goal-scoring ability—key traits that have influenced recent matches. Yamal and Raphinha argue that Barcelona’s attack is more fluid when Torres plays as the central striker. His movement creates more space for the wingers and midfielders, something that doesn’t always happen with Lewandowski, who operates more as a traditional target man. Torres has also developed strong chemistry with the midfielders, which could be crucial against Atletico’s disciplined defense.

Another factor influencing Flick’s decision is Lewandowski’s physical condition. At 36, the Polish striker remains a key player, but managing his workload is necessary. While his stats are still solid, the team has sometimes performed better with a more mobile forward. Against a well-organized defense like Atletico’s, Torres might be the ideal option.

Flick has yet to finalize his lineup, but he is aware that a tactical shift may be needed to counter Atletico’s style. One possibility is starting Torres as the striker while reinforcing the midfield with a more creative player, keeping Lewandowski as an impact substitute in the second half.
