Revealed the reason why Barça rejected signing Joshua Kimmich

FC Barcelona has decided against signing Joshua Kimmich, placing their confidence in Marc Bernal and seeing no role for the German midfielder in their squad.

Kimmich’s future remains highly uncertain, as his contract with Bayern Munich is set to expire at the end of the season. Although the club initially sought to extend his stay, they recently withdrew their renewal offer due to financial disagreements.

Despite being a key player under Vincent Kompany, Kimmich earns significantly less than teammates like Alphonso Davies and Harry Kane. This disparity has left him dissatisfied, as he believes his salary should reflect his importance to the team. However, Bayern remains firm on its wage structure, leading to a breakdown in negotiations.

Speculation about Joshua Kimmich’s future has intensified, with FC Barcelona previously being one of the clubs linked to a potential summer move. The Blaugrana have monitored the German midfielder for years and even attempted to sign him in the past two transfer windows. However, financial fair play restrictions prevented the deal from materializing.

Barça Opts Against Signing Kimmich

Now that Barcelona’s finances have improved and they are operating under the 1:1 rule again, they could afford to sign Kimmich in the upcoming transfer window. However, according to Relevo, the club has ultimately decided against the move, believing he does not fit into Hansi Flick’s starting lineup.

On the right side, Jules Koundé has cemented himself as one of the best in his position, while the midfield is already packed with talents like Pedri, Casadó, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, and, most importantly, Marc Bernal. Barça has immense confidence in the 17-year-old academy star, who is currently recovering from a serious knee injury sustained against Rayo on August 13, which required surgery.

Bernal’s recovery is progressing well, and Barcelona expects him to break into the first team next season, making the pivot position well-covered. As a result, sporting director Deco and his team will prioritize strengthening other areas, such as full-backs and forwards, in what promises to be a busy summer for the club.
