Barcelona’s pursuit of Alexander Isak has gained momentum, with reports from Spain indicating that the Newcastle United striker is actively pushing for a move to Camp Nou this summer.
The 25-year-old’s future at St James’ Park remains uncertain, especially if Newcastle fails to qualify for next season’s Champions League. According to El Nacional, Isak has already rejected offers from Arsenal and Liverpool, holding out for his preferred move to Barcelona, who are eager to sign him.
However, securing a deal won’t be straightforward. Newcastle is reportedly demanding at least €180 million for the Swedish international—a figure that could pose a major challenge for Barcelona, given their well-known financial struggles.
Despite this, club president Joan Laporta is reportedly “willing to do everything possible” to bring in the prolific striker, who is viewed as the ideal long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski.
Isak has been in outstanding form this season, scoring 22 goals and providing five assists in 31 matches. Liverpool are also closely monitoring his situation and see him as a potential replacement for Darwin Núñez. Following Isak’s impressive performance against Manchester United in December, Jamie Carragher praised him on Sky Sports, saying, “He is the best striker in the Premier League right now, and I don’t think it’s even close.”
Back in November, Isak addressed speculation about a possible move away from Newcastle. He stated, “Throughout my career, I have never commented on transfer rumors during the season. There have been many over the years, but they don’t affect me. I am focused on my time at Newcastle and ensuring we have a fantastic season. I am not thinking about anything else.”
Regarding claims that his representatives are frustrated with Newcastle over contract negotiations, Isak responded, “A lot of information and rumors surface, and much of what I read isn’t true. That’s all I can say on the matter.”
