The passing of Carles Miniaro, a member of Barcelona’s medical staff, led to the postponement of yesterday’s match between Barcelona and Osasuna. Joan Laporta informed the players of the doctor’s death on the field less than an hour before the game was set to begin.
Following the club’s official announcement, Barcelona’s first-team players expressed their condolences to the late doctor’s family and friends, sharing their grief.
The match, originally scheduled to take place at the “Luis Companys” stadium as part of La Liga’s 27th round, will be rescheduled. Barcelona currently leads the league with 57 points, while Osasuna stands in 11th place with 33 points. Meanwhile, Barcelona’s next fixture is against Atletico Madrid at the “Metropolitano” stadium on March 16.
According to the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, Pedri is among the players most affected by Dr. Miniaro’s passing due to their close bond. Overcome with emotion, Pedri broke down in the locker room upon hearing the news, unable to contain his tears. His teammates tried to console him.
The report also noted that German coach Hansi Flick is deeply saddened by the tragedy and is concerned about Pedri’s emotional well-being, fearing that it could impact him significantly during this crucial phase of the season.
Pedri paid tribute to the late doctor on Instagram, writing: “I still can’t believe it. Sending a big hug to his family and friends.”
