Barcelona star sho,cks everyone and surprises Hansi Flick by rejecting a call-up to his national team for the upcoming international break

Barcelona’s Szczęsny Rejects National Team Call-Up to Focus on Club Career

Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny has turned down a call-up to the Polish national team, opting instead to focus entirely on his club duties.

According to Marca, the veteran shot-stopper—who was recently lured out of international retirement—has decided not to rejoin Poland for their upcoming matches against Lithuania and Malta on March 21 and 24.

Why Szczęsny Declined the Call-Up

Szczęsny retired from international football after Euro 2024, ending a distinguished international career with 84 caps. However, Polish coach Michal Probierz had been pushing for his return. Despite these efforts, Szczęsny has made it clear that his priority is Barcelona.

With Marc-André ter Stegen sidelined for the rest of the season, Szczęsny has established himself as Hansi Flick’s first-choice goalkeeper. His impressive performances have solidified his role at the club, and Barcelona are now working to extend his contract until June 2026.

Meanwhile, Robert Lewandowski—Szczęsny’s former Poland teammate and current Barcelona colleague—has been included in Poland’s squad for the upcoming international fixtures.

Szczęsny’s decision signals his full commitment to Barcelona, as the club pushes for success in both La Liga and European competitions.
