Liverpool Not in Talks for Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong
Despite recent speculation, Liverpool are not currently negotiating a deal for Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong. The Dutch defender has been in outstanding form since joining the Bundesliga club from Celtic in 2021, attracting interest from top European sides.
Liverpool’s potential pursuit of right-sided defenders has been a hot topic amid uncertainty surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation. The England international has yet to extend his deal, which expires at the end of the season, sparking fears that the club could lose him for free—missing out on a potential £100m transfer fee. Real Madrid, long-time admirers, reportedly made an attempt to sign him at a reduced price in January.
While Liverpool remain hopeful of retaining Alexander-Arnold, they are also considering alternatives. Frimpong is one of several right-backs being monitored by the club’s recruitment team, led by sporting director Richard Hughes. The 24-year-old’s ability to play as a wing-back and his Dutch nationality further link him to Liverpool’s incoming head coach, Arne Slot.
In addition to Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are also approaching the final stages of their contracts. Talks are ongoing, but their futures remain uncertain, setting up a potentially busy summer for Liverpool’s transfer activity.
The club has already secured the arrival of goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in a £29 million deal. Meanwhile, Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez has emerged as a strong candidate to strengthen the left-back position as Liverpool plan a squad refresh.
