Hans-Dieter Flick sought a personal conversation with a Barcelona player after hearing about his dissatisfaction with his current role and his thoughts on future opportunities.
According to the Spanish outlet El Nacional, Fermín López is eager for more consistent playing time and a more prominent role. However, he has often found himself in a supporting position, mostly coming off the bench or being used in limited situations in recent matches.
Typically, Dani Olmo has been the preferred starter when fit, forming a midfield trio with Pedri and Frenkie de Jong—leaving Fermín on the sidelines. Still, whenever he’s been given a chance, Fermín has shown he’s ready to step up. His standout performance against Borussia Dortmund was a clear example, where he contributed an assist to Robert Lewandowski and played a key role in a crucial win that almost guaranteed Barcelona a spot in the Champions League semifinals.
Known for his relentless work ethic and willingness to sacrifice for the team, Fermín is highly regarded at Camp Nou. Flick is particularly impressed and values his contributions.
Despite tough competition in midfield, Flick has no intention of letting Fermín leave. He sees him as an essential part of the squad and is pleased with his attitude and performances—even if he isn’t a regular starter like Ferran Torres or Gavi. Flick met with Fermín to reaffirm his appreciation and told him he sees him as part of Barcelona’s plans for the next season.
The coach emphasized that he doesn’t want to consider any offers for Fermín, despite strong interest from clubs like Liverpool, Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Atlético Madrid. Flick hopes the young talent will honor his recently signed contract and continue at Camp Nou.
