Christensen’s future at Barcelona hangs in the balance amid injury struggles

Andreas Christensen’s tenure at Barcelona continues to be hampered by persistent injuries, with the Danish defender still struggling to regain full fitness this season. After playing just 26 minutes in the opening La Liga match against Valencia, Christensen has faced multiple setbacks, including Achilles tendinopathy and a recent soleus muscle injury.

Barcelona has acknowledged that Christensen’s Achilles issue has been a persistent problem since the start of the season, and managing the pain has become increasingly challenging. Sources within the club have revealed, “He struggles to tolerate the pain.”

Despite receiving praise for his professionalism and versatility from coach Hansi Flick, Christensen’s limited availability raises concerns about his future at the club. He is contracted until 2026, but Barcelona’s policy of not retaining players entering the final year of their deal could prompt the club to make a decision this summer.

The Barcelona board is reportedly keen on seeing Christensen play more minutes before the season ends in order to assess his fitness for a potential transfer negotiation. While Christensen is eager to remain at Barça and prove his value, the club remains uncertain about his future.
