Joan Laporta decided to halt negotiations to sign one of the big names who was close to joining the team, following the exceptional performance delivered by a Barcelona star against Real Madrid!

Barcelona’s Copa del Rey triumph over Real Madrid not only lifted team spirit but also prompted important strategic decisions within the club. Club president Joan Laporta made it clear that Barcelona would not pursue a right-back during the upcoming summer transfer window.

According to the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, this choice was heavily influenced by Jules Kounde’s outstanding display in the final, where he scored the decisive goal in extra time. His stellar defensive and attacking contributions throughout key stages of the season confirmed the club’s belief that Kounde is among the best full-backs globally.

For months, Barcelona’s management had considered signing a high-profile right-back to strengthen the squad. However, Kounde’s remarkable performance at La Cartuja convinced both Laporta and coach Hansi Flick that no reinforcements are necessary in that position, allowing the club to reallocate funds toward more pressing needs.

This decision also serves as a strong endorsement of Kounde, who has firmly established himself since transferring from Sevilla, dispelling any doubts regarding his adaptation.

Additionally, Barcelona aims to fast-track Kounde’s contract renewal. Although he is currently tied to the club until 2027, growing interest from European giants like Arsenal and Manchester United is prompting Barcelona to act swiftly.

Laporta and sporting director Deco intend to extend his contract until 2030, enhance his salary, and raise his release clause to fend off potential suitors. Kounde, who feels valued and at home at Barcelona, fully supports the club’s plans.
