Hansi Flick announces Araujo’s replacement at Barcelona following the decision to dismiss the Uruguayan defender in a high-profile transfer deal.

Barcelona’s Champions League exit to Inter Milan has prompted serious questions about the future of several key players, with Ronald Araujo being one of the most heavily criticized for his performance during the second leg. Despite his important role in the squad over the years, the Uruguayan defender’s future at the club now seems uncertain, leading to speculation that he may be sold as part of the club’s plans for restructuring.

In response to the possibility of Araujo’s departure, Barcelona’s new manager, Hansi Flick, has reportedly identified young Spanish defender Dean Huijsen as his preferred replacement. Huijsen, who has impressed with Bournemouth in the Premier League, is gaining attention for his physical attributes, maturity, and technical abilities that suit Flick’s style of play.

The 19-year-old is highly sought after, with top clubs like Real Madrid, Arsenal, and Liverpool having already monitored his progress. However, Barcelona’s financial situation could make this move challenging, as Huijsen’s market value is currently around €50 million. Still, Barcelona expects to raise between €60 and €70 million from Araujo’s sale, which could make this transfer possible.

Real Madrid, also eyeing Huijsen as a potential future defensive option, and English clubs like Manchester United and Tottenham are likely to be competitors for his signature. Should Araujo leave, Barcelona’s coaching staff is hopeful that Huijsen could quickly adapt and become a key figure in their defense, potentially even playing in a three-man defensive system that Flick is considering.
