Liverpool Fans Criticized for Disrespectful Banner Targeting Mikel Arteta

Liverpool fans are facing criticism after unveiling a provocative banner aimed at Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta during their 2-2 draw with the Gunners at Anfield. The banner, deemed offensive and inappropriate by many supporters and pundits, has led to widespread condemnation, with many calling the act “classless.”

Tensions between Arteta and sections of the Liverpool fanbase have been simmering for some time. This dates back to Arteta’s infamous attempt to simulate the Anfield atmosphere during training by blasting “You’ll Never Walk Alone” through speakers—a move that backfired as Arsenal were thrashed 4-0. His passionate and often animated conduct on the sidelines has also drawn criticism from Reds supporters, who see it as excessive.

However, Arteta has also shown acts of respect in the past, notably when he paid tribute to the 97 victims of the Hillsborough disaster—a gesture that was broadly appreciated within the football community.

This banner incident has reignited calls for greater civility among fans and renewed focus on maintaining respect between rival clubs as the Premier League season approaches its conclusion.
