Liverpool in talks to sign ‘genius’ player after Jeremie Frimpong and he could be the bargain of the summer

Liverpool are in talks for another huge signing after reportedly wrapping up a deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong.

Liverpool made just one signing during Arne Slot’s first transfer window, securing Federico Chiesa from Juventus in a budget-friendly deal.

However, after leading the team to their 20th league title in his debut season, Slot is expected to receive substantial backing this summer, with the club planning multiple additions to the squad.

A top priority will be finding a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer once his contract with Liverpool ends.

Liverpool appear close to completing their first summer signing, with German outlet Kicker reporting that the club is nearing a €40 million agreement for Jeremie Frimpong.

The ex-Manchester City youth player has been a standout for Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen side, contributing 19 goals and 24 assists over the last two seasons from his right wing-back position.

Frimpong is expected to sign a contract running until 2030, but Liverpool’s transfer activity likely won’t stop there.

According to Le Parisien, the club is one of three Premier League teams to have enquired about Lyon star Rayan Cherki, who has tallied 12 goals and 19 assists in 43 appearances this season.

Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are also reportedly interested in the 21-year-old, who was once dubbed a “genius” and nearly joined Manchester United at age 15.

Cherki, whose release clause is surprisingly low, came close to joining Paris Saint-Germain last summer before changing his mind and eyeing a move to Borussia Dortmund—a deal that ultimately fell through due to Lyon and Dortmund failing to reach an agreement.

He remained at Lyon and signed a new contract, but the club has agreed to let him leave this summer for just €22.5 million (£19 million), sparking intense competition for his signature.

Cherki’s versatility allows him to play in various roles, offering Liverpool several attacking options.
