Hansi Flick has requested that Barcelona’s management sign this player to win the Champions League!

Although Barcelona has already clinched the La Liga title, new manager Hansi Flick has his sights set firmly on European success. In his debut season at Camp Nou, the German coach made it clear that domestic dominance isn’t enough, declaring, “We have the potential to achieve more.” His top priority for next season is winning the UEFA Champions League.

To reach that goal, Flick believes a key upgrade is needed—at goalkeeper. According to El Nacional, he has urged the club’s board to pursue Emiliano Martinez, the Argentine World Cup-winning keeper, citing his big-match mentality and shot-stopping ability as crucial assets for a team aiming to challenge Europe’s elite.

This decision follows a season in which Flick and his staff assessed Barcelona’s shortcomings, particularly when compared to Champions League finalists. The success of teams like PSG and Inter Milan, backed by top-performing goalkeepers like Donnarumma and Yann Sommer, reinforced Flick’s belief that elite goalkeeping is vital in high-stakes continental matches.

Current first-choice Marc-André ter Stegen has struggled with injuries and inconsistent form, raising doubts about his long-term reliability. Although winter arrival Wojciech Szczęsny impressed in his limited appearances, Flick reportedly doesn’t view him as a viable solution moving forward—especially if Ter Stegen’s decline continues.

Flick has made his stance clear to sporting director Deco and the club hierarchy: securing a world-class, mentally resilient, and European-experienced goalkeeper is a non-negotiable part of their summer plans. Emiliano Martinez is currently the leading candidate, thanks to his commanding presence, confidence under pressure, and proven ability to deliver in critical moments.

As Barcelona prepares to make a renewed push for European glory, Flick sees the goalkeeper position as the foundation. With the right figure between the posts, he believes Barcelona can turn domestic strength into continental dominance.
