A controversial deal shakes Catalonia as the departure of Barcelona’s talented star to Inter Milan draws closer

Fermín López Draws Inter Milan Interest Amid Barcelona’s Financial Crunch

Inter Milan has set its sights on Barcelona midfielder Fermín López as a potential summer signing, according to Mundo Deportivo and Calciomercato. The Italian giants—fresh off winning Serie A and qualifying for the 2025 Champions League final—are seeking a long-term successor to 36-year-old Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and view the 22-year-old Spaniard as a key target.

Fermín, though not a consistent starter for Barça, has impressed in several cameo appearances and is seen as a player with significant upside. Inter’s growing interest underscores the midfielder’s rising stock across Europe.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are bracing for a financially challenging summer due to continued constraints under Financial Fair Play rules. Offloading players outside new manager Hansi Flick’s core plans is viewed as necessary, especially to facilitate renewals for top players and maintain wage structure reforms. While the club has not yet received a formal offer from Inter, it’s reported that they would consider selling López for a fee around €60 million.

The potential sale would give Barcelona a much-needed financial boost but also represents a difficult decision—whether to sacrifice a promising young talent in order to stabilize the club’s economic footing.

As Inter weighs a formal approach, the ball is now in Barcelona’s court: cash in on Fermín López’s momentum or keep faith in him as part of their long-term rebuild.
