Real Madrid to Part Ways with Luka Modric in Favor of Youth – Reports

Real Madrid and Luka Modric will go their separate ways at the end of the season, according to reports. While Modric was open to staying and had support from within the club, including soon-to-be head coach Xabi Alonso, the club has chosen not to extend his contract.

According to Diario AS, this decision is part of Madrid’s strategy to prioritize younger talents like Arda Güler and potentially new midfield additions. Modric, who has spent 11 years at the club, accepted the decision with grace. Money was not a factor in the departure.

The Croatian veteran, 39, will make his final appearance at the Santiago Bernabeu in the match against Real Sociedad, and will also feature in the upcoming Club World Cup—his final contribution for the team.

Former Madrid keeper Santi Cañizares commented: “No one in the current squad is better than him.”
