Girona cool on Oriol Romeu return – reports

Girona have officially announced the departures of Oriol Romeu, along with Bryan Gil, Arnaut Danjuma, and Arthur Melo, all of whom have contracts expiring on June 30. However, Romeu, currently contracted with Barcelona until June 2026, is not part of new manager Hansi Flickโ€™s plans.

According to Mundo Deportivo, while a return to Girona has been discussed, interest in bringing Romeu back has cooled. No formal plans are in place at the moment, and further talks with his agent are expected as the transfer window progresses. Girona are hesitant to invest in a player with only one year remaining on his deal.

One scenario being considered is a mutual termination of Romeuโ€™s contract to ease his exit while protecting Barcelonaโ€™s interests in any future transfers. Despite the uncertainty, Girona still hold the midfielder in high regard.

Head coach Mรญchel and technical secretary Quique Cรกrcel both remain supporters of Romeu, and with Gironaโ€™s pre-season beginning on July 8โ€”five days ahead of Barcelonaโ€™sโ€”there is still time to reach a decision.
