In its determined effort to reclaim a top spot among Europe’s elite football clubs, Barcelona is laying out bold plans to bolster its squad during the upcoming summer transfer window. A longstanding powerhouse in both Spanish and European football, the club is focused on returning to prominence, particularly in the UEFA Champions League after a period of underachievement.
As part of this strategy, Barcelona is on the verge of securing the services of Spanish goalkeeper Juan Garcia from Espanyol. According to the Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo, the club has reached an agreement to bring Garcia on board next season, fulfilling a specific request from new head coach Hansi Flick.
Barcelona is set to trigger the €25 million release clause in Garcia’s contract, which currently ties him to Espanyol until June 2028. The 24-year-old is expected to sign a five-year deal with the Blaugrana.
Despite interest from several Premier League clubs—most notably Manchester City—Garcia’s preference to join Barcelona played a decisive role in the deal. He enjoyed a standout season with Espanyol, appearing in 38 matches across all competitions and recording eight clean sheets.
The move reflects Barcelona’s commitment to reinforcing its goalkeeping department to stay competitive both in La Liga and on the European stage.
