Liverpool player decides to leave the club hours after Arne Slot offers record bid for Florian Wirtz

One Liverpool star has reportedly decided to search for a new team just hours after the club made a new bid for Florian Wirtz.

In recent weeks, Liverpool have been tirelessly working behind the scenes to finalize a deal for Florian Wirtz.

On Friday evening, reports surfaced that the club had submitted a new bid for the 22-year-old German international, aiming to make progress in ongoing negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen.

According to The Times’ journalist Paul Joyce, Liverpool’s revised offer includes a total package worth £113 million, consisting of £100 million guaranteed and a further £13 million in performance-based add-ons.

Just hours after Liverpool submitted their revised bid for Florian Wirtz, reports emerged that Federico Chiesa — one of the club’s current players — is keen on leaving Anfield this summer.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported: “Federico Chiesa’s priority in the upcoming transfer window is a return to Italy. While he has great affection for Liverpool, his lack of consistent playing time has become a concern. Several Italian clubs have now initiated contact to explore the terms of a potential deal.”

The 27-year-old winger, who joined Liverpool from Juventus last summer for a reported £10 million, has struggled to make a significant impact due to recurring injuries.

Chiesa made just 14 appearances in all competitions throughout the season, registering two goals and two assists, and failed to secure a regular role under Arne Slot.

Liverpool Star Eyes Exit Just Hours After Club Makes Record Wirtz Bid

In a dramatic twist at Anfield, Federico Chiesa is reportedly looking to leave Liverpool, just hours after the club tabled a record-breaking bid for Florian Wirtz.

Having worked tirelessly in recent weeks to land the German international, Liverpool submitted a revised offer of £113 million to Bayer Leverkusen on Friday evening. The proposal, according to The Times’ Paul Joyce, includes £100 million up front, with an additional £13 million in add-ons.

But while the Reds intensify their push for Wirtz, Chiesa has made clear his intention to move on this summer.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano revealed: “Federico Chiesa’s top priority is a return to Italy. He has affection for Liverpool, but the lack of playing time has become a key issue. Several Italian clubs have now initiated contact to understand the terms of a possible move.”

The 27-year-old winger joined Liverpool from Juventus in August 2024 for around £10 million, but his debut season at Anfield has been plagued by injury setbacks. Limited opportunities under Arne Slot meant Chiesa managed just 14 appearances, contributing two goals and two assists.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, Chiesa opened up about the tough start to life in England:
“There were many difficulties in the early months. I arrived on August 26, didn’t train with the team, didn’t have any friendlies—nothing. I felt like I’d landed on another planet.”

He also acknowledged the stiff competition he faced for a spot in the lineup:
“On the right was Mohamed Salah, a Ballon d’Or candidate. On the left were Luis Díaz and Cody Gakpo. Slot even played me as a No. 9 at times. The desire to play was always there, but I understood the situation and set aside personal ambition.”

With Chiesa open to offers and Liverpool continuing their pursuit of Wirtz, it appears a summer reshuffle is underway at Anfield — one that could reshape the club’s attacking setup in the Arne Slot era.
