Liverpool have officially completed the signing of the £60 million South American star.

Fabrizio Romano Shares Latest on Hugo Ekitike Amid Liverpool Interest

Fabrizio Romano has delivered a new update regarding Hugo Ekitike that could interest Liverpool supporters.

After Florian Plettenberg reported on Sunday (via X) that Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea are all monitoring the Eintracht Frankfurt striker, Romano confirmed that the 22-year-old is still exploring his options and hasn’t committed to any club yet.

Romano: Liverpool Remain in the Race for Ekitike

On his YouTube channel, Romano mentioned that Darwin Nunez is “expected to leave” Liverpool this summer, despite former player Stan Collymore urging the club to keep him. Romano also noted that FSG are already making efforts behind the scenes to sign Ekitike.

He stated: “With Nunez potentially departing, Ekitike has become a key target for Liverpool. Talks with his representatives began in May, and the club has maintained regular contact since then. He’s definitely still on Liverpool’s radar.

“Despite interest from other clubs, don’t count Liverpool out — they’re very much still involved.”

Ekitike May Be a More Feasible Signing Than Isak

With Manchester United reportedly initiating talks with Ekitike’s camp, Liverpool’s early and consistent engagement could prove crucial.

If Nunez does leave, Liverpool will need to act quickly to secure a replacement before the transfer window shuts in August. While Diogo Jota is a capable option, his injury record makes another forward essential.

Though journalist Lewis Steele suggests that Ekitike isn’t at the same level as Alexander Isak, the French striker is likely a more affordable choice — an important consideration since Liverpool have already spent £116 million on Florian Wirtz.

The ongoing dialogue between Liverpool and Ekitike’s camp suggests FSG is preparing for a possible vacancy in the attack and may move quickly to sign the young French talent if the opportunity arises.

With Chelsea and United also showing interest, Liverpool would do well to remain assertive in their pursuit.
