Liverpool NewsRevealed: Florian Wirtz ‘Expected’ to Pick this Liverpool Shirt Number as Florian Wirtz flies in for medical…

Florian Wirtz Poised for Liverpool Move — Will Wear New Number at Anfield

Liverpool are on the verge of making a blockbuster signing by agreeing a club‑record deal with Bayer Leverkusen for star midfielder Florian Wirtz, potentially rising to £116m with add‑ons. As Reds fans eagerly anticipate the official announcement, attention has quickly turned to which shirt number the German international will wear.

At Leverkusen, Wirtz rose to prominence in the No. 10 shirt, a number currently held by Alexis Mac Allister at Liverpool. When speculation arose online, Wirtz responded bluntly via Instagram: “Who says I want the 10? I respect players. Don’t believe everything that’s written.”

Although the No. 10 is off‑limits, a familiar option may be available. The only other shirt number Wirtz has worn throughout his senior club career is 27, the number he debuted with at Leverkusen. Coincidentally, that shirt is currently vacant at Anfield — Darwin Núñez used it in his first Liverpool campaign before switching to No. 9.

If he chooses No. 27, Wirtz would join a line of notable Reds who’ve sported it, including cult hero Divock Origi, famed for his heroic moments in Liverpool’s 2019 Champions League campaign, and Gregory Vignal, a squad member during the 2000‑01 cup treble.

With Liverpool also adding ex‑Leverkusen full‑back Jeremie Frimpong and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer, Arne Slot’s reshaping of the squad is well underway. Frimpong himself spoke passionately about making the move:

“Liverpool expressed their interest, and for me, it was an obvious decision. I told my agents, ‘Just make it happen.’ To the Liverpool fans, I promise to give my all, my energy, and my work ethic. Together, I hope we can achieve victories, celebrate together, and accomplish everything as a team.”

With the pieces falling into place, Wirtz’s arrival signals a bold new chapter for Liverpool — and the potential rebirth of the No. 27 shirt.
