Bayern Munich Struggle to Secure Left-Wing Reinforcements as Key Targets Slip Away
Bayern Munich are facing significant difficulties in their efforts to bolster their options on the left wing, as top transfer targets edge closer to moves elsewhere. With Leroy Sané expected to depart on a free transfer to Turkish club Galatasaray, the urgency to find a suitable replacement has grown.
Initially, Bayern had shortlisted several promising players to fill the upcoming void. However, two of their primary targets — Nico Williams and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens — now appear unlikely to join the Bundesliga champions.
Bynoe-Gittens, the 19-year-old English talent from Borussia Dortmund, has reportedly agreed personal terms with Chelsea. Under new manager Enzo Maresca, the London club acted swiftly to land the young winger. Meanwhile, Nico Williams is said to be nearing a move to Barcelona. Despite financial hurdles, the Catalan club have reportedly secured a €40 million injection from Libero Football Finance to facilitate the deal for the 2025/26 season.
With these setbacks, Bayern are now shifting focus to the Premier League. Sporting director Max Eberl has turned his attention to Liverpool, where both Cody Gakpo and Luis Díaz are being considered as potential options. According to journalist Christian Falk, Gakpo has emerged as a top target following an impressive season under new Liverpool boss Arne Slot. Although initial contact has taken place, talks have reportedly stalled for now, but Bayern have not ruled out a renewed attempt.
Luis Díaz, the Colombian international, is also on Bayern’s radar. Between them, Díaz and Gakpo contributed 35 goals and 15 assists last season, making them attractive prospects for a Bayern side seeking consistent offensive firepower.
However, securing either player will be difficult. Gakpo is under contract with Liverpool until 2028 and remains an integral part of their squad. Unless the Dutch forward expresses interest in a move or Bayern make a compelling offer, Liverpool are unlikely to part ways with him easily.
