Liverpool have been placed on high alert following a surprising development regarding Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, as a new transfer report sends shockwaves through the Premier League.
Both Liverpool and Newcastle have been active in the transfer market this summer, each strengthening their squads as preparations intensify for the upcoming season.
The Reds have already made major moves — breaking their transfer record to land Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. Jeremie Frimpong has also joined from the German side, while Milos Kerkez has been secured to bolster the squad further. Now, with Isak potentially available, Liverpool could be gearing up for another high-profile addition.
Newcastle United have made moves of their own this summer, signing Spanish prospect Antonio Cordero and closing in on a £55 million deal for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga.
Despite securing Champions League football under Eddie Howe, Newcastle face ongoing uncertainty surrounding star striker Alexander Isak, who continues to be at the center of major transfer speculation. Liverpool are reportedly weighing up a move and have been given the green light to pursue a big-money transfer for the Swedish international.
But Isak isn’t the only high-profile forward drawing attention this window.
Hugo Ekitike has also emerged as a hot commodity, with the 23-year-old French striker reportedly attracting interest from three financially strong clubs, according to RMC Sport. Newcastle are said to be in the mix, alongside Saudi Arabian sides Al Qadsiah and Al Hilal, both of whom have reached out to the player’s representatives.
Despite the lucrative offers from the Gulf region, Ekitike is believed to favor remaining in Europe for now. His valuation stands at an eye-watering €100 million (£86 million), a fee that would break Newcastle’s current transfer record if met.
In a separate update, Fabrizio Romano confirmed Newcastle’s strong interest in Ekitike. The former PSG forward impressed during his loan spell at Eintracht Frankfurt last season, scoring 22 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions. Frankfurt made the move permanent this summer, triggering a €16.5 million (£14.2 million) buy option in his deal.
Ekitike, who rose through the ranks at Reims before his stint at PSG, could now be poised for another big step in his rapidly rising career.
