French defender Ibrahima Konaté has reportedly told Liverpool that he’s considering a transfer to Real Madrid this summer. According to Spanish outlet MARCA (via Tribal Football), the player has been in discussions over a new contract with the club, but talks have progressed slowly, raising doubts about an extension.
As a result, Konaté might depart Anfield and reunite with former teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold in Madrid. Real Madrid are currently seeking to bolster their defense and are eyeing another center-back.
Although they recently signed ex-Bournemouth talent Dean Huijsen, the Spanish giants are still targeting additional reinforcements at the back. Konaté is on their shortlist, though a move is more likely to happen next summer.
With Konaté’s contract set to expire at the end of next season, he would be free to negotiate with other clubs. Real Madrid could attempt a similar strategy to the one used in the Trent Alexander-Arnold deal. Meanwhile, Liverpool are keen to avoid losing the Frenchman on a free transfer or for a cut-price fee.
