Liverpool vs AC Milan: Team News, Predicted Lineup & How to Watch

Liverpool Set for Second Pre-Season Match in Hong Kong

Liverpool returns to the pitch this Saturday for their second pre-season fixture of the tour, facing AC Milan in Hong Kong. After a behind-closed-doors win over Preston, fans will now get a public look at Arne Slot’s side.

The Reds have been getting used to conditions in the Far East, and the focus is now on blending in new signings and testing tactical approaches, especially after a successful Premier League campaign last season.

One of the latest additions, Hugo Ekitike from PSG, has joined training but it’s unclear whether he’ll feature in the game.

Goalkeeper and Defensive Setup

Pre-season lineups often vary, especially early on. With Alisson Becker only recently back in training, Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to start in goal. Alisson may still feature later if Slot makes widespread changes during the second half.

Conor Bradley should return to his usual right-back spot, with Szoboszlai having filled in there previously. In central defense, Virgil van Dijk’s minutes are being carefully managed, so Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez are likely to start. On the left, Milos Kerkez is expected to get the nod over Andy Robertson and Luke Chambers, having impressed in training.

Midfield Adjustments Without Mac Allister

Alexis Mac Allister hasn’t resumed full training, so Liverpool will need to reshuffle in midfield. Curtis Jones or Dominik Szoboszlai may play a deeper role, alongside Ryan Gravenberch. Florian Wirtz, absent against Preston, is now in line to start as the attacking midfielder and could bring a much-needed creative spark.

Ngumoha’s Rise in the Attack

Although much attention has been on new arrival Hugo Ekitike, his limited time in training suggests he may not start. Instead, young Rio Ngumoha could get another opportunity on the left wing. The 17-year-old has impressed the coaching team with his pace and composure.

Mohamed Salah is expected to start on the right, while Cody Gakpo may lead the line in the absence of Darwin Nunez and with Ekitike still settling in.

Predicted Starting XI:

  • Goalkeeper: Giorgi Mamardashvili
  • Defenders: Conor Bradley, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, Milos Kerkez
  • Midfielders: Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch, Florian Wirtz
  • Forwards: Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Rio Ngumoha

Expect numerous substitutions as Slot aims to balance match fitness and tactical experimentation. While the result is secondary, the game offers a key opportunity to build cohesion and fine-tune strategies for the upcoming season.
