Man Utd ‘looking at signing another player’ just one day after Liverpool defeat who can join right now

Manchester United have responded to their devastating 3-0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford by identifying another transfer target, according to a new report.

United faced familiar struggles against their fierce rivals as Luis Diaz scored twice before halftime. His first goal came after a misplaced pass from Casemiro allowed Diaz to head in Mohamed Salah’s cross. The second followed a similar pattern, with Diaz intercepting Casemiro’s pass, combining with Salah, and striking a first-time effort into the bottom right corner.

Salah added a third after the break with a clinical finish from another slick Liverpool move, beating goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Casemiro’s performance drew significant attention, as he was substituted at halftime with young midfielder Toby Collyer replacing him. However, the change did little to stabilize United’s midfield, which was overpowered, particularly evident in the build-up to Liverpool’s third goal where Kobbie Mainoo was outmuscled.

Manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly looking to strengthen his midfield and has identified Adrien Rabiot as a potential target, according to Dutch outlet Transfer Watch. Rabiot, who is still without a club following Euro 2024, was previously close to joining United in 2022 for £15 million but the deal fell through due to issues with personal terms and Rabiot’s dissatisfaction with comments made by United legend Lou Macari on MUTV.

If signed, Rabiot could join United immediately if registered before the Premier League’s September 14 deadline.

Additionally, Ajax is interested in Christian Eriksen, with the Dutch transfer window closing today (September 2). Ajax will have to wait to see if they can finalize a deal with United.
