Alexander Isak Pushes for Exit as Liverpool Lead Race — £150m Valuation and Contract Demands Revealed
Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak continues to push for a move away from St. James’ Park, having been left out of the club’s pre-season tour last week. Reports soon followed that the Swedish forward had formally requested a transfer.
Liverpool, the reigning Premier League champions, remain the frontrunners for his signature, although Saudi giants Al-Hilal have also been loosely linked.
However, Newcastle are holding firm. The club is reportedly demanding a massive £150 million to part with their star man — a price that reflects Isak’s status and long-term contract.
According to talkSPORT, Isak has not returned to the training ground since submitting his transfer request. Instead, he is training privately at home while Newcastle consider their options.
Adding to the tension, the report also claims that Isak would expect a £300,000-a-week salary to commit to a new deal with the Magpies — a figure that would make him the club’s highest-paid player by a considerable margin.
With the saga still unfolding, all eyes are now on whether Liverpool will meet Newcastle’s valuation — or if the situation pushes the Magpies into negotiating a lower fee.

Uncertainty continues to surround Alexander Isak’s future at Newcastle United, with reports suggesting the striker has not returned to the club’s training ground since submitting a transfer request last week. According to talkSPORT, Isak is currently following a personal training programme at home while the club deliberates over his situation.
The same report claims that the Swedish international would demand a £300,000-a-week salary to agree to a new contract at Newcastle — a significant jump that could impact the club’s wage structure.
Will Isak Leave Newcastle?
At this stage, Isak’s departure remains uncertain, but the possibility is very real. While Newcastle aren’t facing the same Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) pressure they did last summer — when they sold Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh — a sale worth £150 million would go a long way toward ensuring financial stability over the next three-year cycle.
Such a deal would also provide the Magpies with substantial funds to reinvest. However, recent transfer setbacks have raised questions about how effectively those funds could be used. High-profile targets including Dean Huijsen, Bryan Mbeumo, Joao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike, and James Trafford have all turned down moves to St. James’ Park this summer.
Newcastle may want to take caution from Tottenham’s experience in 2013, when they sold Gareth Bale to Real Madrid for £85 million. The club signed seven players with the proceeds, but only Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela proved to be long-term successes.
If Isak does move — with Liverpool currently leading the race — Newcastle will need to be strategic to ensure the sale doesn’t set them back both competitively and financially.
Do Liverpool Really Need Alexander Isak?
While it’s difficult to argue that Liverpool, already spending close to £300 million this summer, need Alexander Isak, there’s no denying he would be a high-quality addition to the squad.
The Swedish striker is entering his prime and already proven in the Premier League. Last season, he bagged 27 goals, finishing just behind Mohamed Salah in the race for the Golden Boot.
However, Isak’s injury history remains a concern. He missed Newcastle’s pre-season tour due to a thigh issue, and manager Eddie Howe has previously admitted they had to manage his minutes carefully due to recurring groin problems.
Standing at 6’3″ and relying on pace and power, Isak is naturally more prone to muscle-related injuries. Any club signing him — Liverpool included — would need to manage his workload smartly to keep him at peak condition.
Still, despite the risks, he could offer Liverpool an exciting new dimension in attack.
