Liverpool Reach Verbal Agreement with Alexander Isak Amid Newcastle Stand-Off
Liverpool have taken a significant step toward landing their top transfer target this summer, with reports indicating they’ve reached a verbal agreement with Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Isak has agreed in principle to personal terms with Liverpool, with a proposed contract running until 2031. The Swedish international is said to be keen on completing the move during the current transfer window.
“Understand: Alexander Isak has already reached a verbal agreement in principle with Liverpool over a contract running until 2031,” Plettenberg posted on X (formerly Twitter).
“Isak wants to make the move to LFC as early as this transfer window. The clubs are in contact. His salary at Liverpool would be similar to that of Hugo Ekitike’s.”
While the salary comparison raised eyebrows—given Isak’s considerably higher profile and market value compared to Ekitike—it’s clear that Liverpool and the player have laid the groundwork. The next hurdle: convincing Newcastle United to part with their star forward.
Isak, notably absent from Newcastle’s pre-season squad, is understood to be pushing for an exit, fueling speculation that a deal could accelerate in the coming days. Liverpool are reportedly prepared to break the British transfer record if necessary, underscoring their intent to make Isak the centerpiece of their new-look attack.
However, despite progress with the player, no formal agreement has been reached with Newcastle, who remain reluctant to sell. Liverpool face a delicate negotiation with a club under no pressure to let go of one of the Premier League’s top strikers.
As it stands, Liverpool and Isak are aligned—but Newcastle remain the key obstacle.
