Man Utd Step Up Baleba Pursuit as £120m Price Tag Looms
Manchester United have opened talks with the representatives of Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba and are preparing a bid for the Cameroon international.
Brighton are reluctant to sell and have slapped a £120 million valuation on the 20-year-old — a figure inspired by Moises Caicedo’s £115m move to Chelsea in 2023. It remains to be seen if United will meet that price, but boss Rúben Amorim is pushing hard for Baleba as his top target before the September 1 deadline.
According to The Independent, the club are exploring a payment-plan bid but also have three other midfielders on their shortlist: Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace), Ederson (Atalanta), and Morten Hjulmand (Sporting).
Wharton could prove the most difficult to land, with Palace in Europe this season and valuing the England international at around £100m. The Eagles are also fending off interest in captain Marc Guehi, who is in talks with Liverpool, and Eberechi Eze, wanted by Arsenal and Spurs.
Ederson has been a long-term United target and remains key for Atalanta, while Hjulmand — who worked with Amorim at Sporting — is admired but faces doubts over his physical suitability for the Premier League.
With time ticking down, United’s midfield chase is shaping up to be one of the final window dramas.
