Arne Slot could miss out on one of his top transfer targets as Arsenal show interest in a player Liverpool are also pursuing.
Slot defied expectations by guiding Liverpool to the Premier League title last season. Many predicted the team would struggle following Jurgen Klopp’s departure, but instead, they flourished.
Liverpool were among the most dominant sides in the league. While their Champions League run ended sooner than hoped, they still proved their quality.
Even with their domestic success, the Reds had a few areas that needed improvement, and Slot has been working to strengthen the squad since early June.

Although the signings of Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez are expected to significantly strengthen Liverpool, a few positions in the squad still need attention.
Liverpool could miss out on signing Anthony Gordon, as Arsenal have reportedly expressed interest.
One of the areas Slot’s squad currently looks vulnerable in is attack. Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez are both reportedly considering leaving, with Diaz even prepared to notify Liverpool of his desire to depart.
Several forwards have been linked with a move to Anfield this summer, but Anthony Gordon has been a long-standing target. Liverpool had attempted to sign him last season while Newcastle were dealing with PSR issues, though no deal materialized.
According to The Athletic, Gordon is now “admired” by Arsenal. The Gunners have also conducted “significant background work” on Rodrygo, holding “preliminary talks” about a potential transfer. Given that Gordon already has Premier League experience, it’s easy to understand why Mikel Arteta’s side would be keen on signing him.
Liverpool must go all out to secure Anthony Gordon before Arsenal move in.
With the 2025-26 season approaching, there are still a few key signings Liverpool need to make. Gordon has long been linked with a switch to Anfield, but growing interest from other top-six clubs means the window could be a “now or never” moment for the Reds.
The former Everton winger was praised by Troy Deeney as a “wonderful” player after his performances for Newcastle against Arsenal. Primarily a left-winger, Gordon also filled in as a striker last season when Calum Wilson and Alexander Isak were sidelined.
While the future remains uncertain, Liverpool must prepare to act swiftly if they want to land the Englishman, or risk losing him to a rival.
