Report: Liverpool to Hold Transfer Meeting as ‘Brilliant’ Defender Nears Exit
Monday could prove pivotal for Liverpool, both on and off the pitch. While the Reds prepare to face Newcastle United at St James’ Park in a crucial Premier League clash, transfer talks behind the scenes are also expected to take center stage.
Much of the build-up has revolved around Liverpool’s ongoing pursuit of Alexander Isak. Speculation continues that the Reds may submit an official bid for the Swedish striker once Monday’s fixture is out of the way, making the bank holiday a potentially defining day in their season.
However, Isak is not the only player at the heart of Liverpool’s transfer activity. Greek international Kostas Tsimikas, left out of both matchday squads so far this season, looks increasingly likely to leave Anfield before the transfer deadline.
According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà, Liverpool are set to meet with Roma today to discuss the possibility of Tsimikas joining the Serie A club on loan. Roma are expected to intensify their interest, while Marseille and other European clubs are also monitoring the situation.
Tsimikas, described as “brilliant” by Michael Owen last season, has been a dependable option since arriving in 2020. But following the summer signing of Milos Kerkez, he has slipped to third choice at left-back behind Kerkez and Andy Robertson. Liverpool are understood to prefer a permanent sale, though a loan move may be the most realistic outcome.
Tsimikas is not expected to feature against Newcastle, with Arne Slot likely choosing between Robertson and Kerkez for the starting role. His exclusion further underlines the uncertainty surrounding his future.
As Liverpool chase both squad reinforcements and potential departures in the final week of the transfer window, Monday’s developments could play a major role in shaping the club’s direction for the season ahead.
