Liverpool target £100m signing after Alexander Isak in Man City and Real Madrid transfer battle

Liverpool are among several top clubs showing interest in another Premier League player as their pursuit of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak continues.

Isak Exit Blocked as Newcastle Demand Replacements Before Liverpool Move

Alexander Isak, 25, continues to be at the center of one of the summer’s biggest transfer sagas, with Liverpool pushing hard to sign the Newcastle striker. The Reds saw a £110m-plus-add-ons bid rejected earlier this month, and Isak has not featured for the Magpies since the final game of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

The Swedish forward made headlines last week after releasing a statement claiming that “promises” made to him had been “broken,” further fueling speculation over his future. Despite his desire to leave, Newcastle are unwilling to sanction his departure until they secure two attacking reinforcements.

Eddie Howe’s side are targeting Brentford’s Yoane Wissa and Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade as replacements before the September 1 transfer deadline. According to Sky Sports, Newcastle have already struck a deal for Woltemade, agreeing to pay £64.86m (€75m) plus £4.3m (€5m) in add-ons.

Isak Saga Could Trigger More Liverpool Business as Wharton Links Emerge

The potential exit of Alexander Isak from Newcastle may yet open the door to further transfer movement – and Liverpool could be among the busiest clubs before the window closes.

Despite already completing nine signings this summer — Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giovanni Leoni, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi, Freddie Woodman, and Will Wright — the Reds are still being linked with new targets.

According to Caught Offside, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Real Madrid are all showing serious interest in Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton.

The 21-year-old has quickly risen to prominence since joining Palace from Blackburn Rovers in 2024, earning an England debut last summer and a spot in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad. His technical ability and maturity have made him one of the Premier League’s brightest young midfielders.

Palace are expected to demand a hefty fee for their prized asset, with reports suggesting they would only consider offers in the region of £100m.

Liverpool, City, and Real Madrid are believed to be leading the chase, though Manchester United and Tottenham remain long-term admirers.

A source revealed to Caught Offside that Tottenham had even “made direct contact with Palace before the Community Shield.” However, Spurs have since shifted focus, with their priority now on completing a deal for Xavi Simons, while the loan arrival of João Palhinha from Bayern Munich is expected to cover the holding midfield role for the season.

The same source noted that “City have been monitoring Wharton’s development for months, and they’re considering a bid,” while also stressing that Real Madrid are carefully assessing the financial implications of a move before deciding whether to enter the race.

Wharton remains under contract at Crystal Palace until 2029, placing the club in a strong negotiating position should the Premier League giants and Madrid come calling.
