Jurgen Klopp to return to management this weekend after accepting first job since Liverpool exit

Jurgen Klopp is set to return to management this weekend following his departure from Liverpool at the end of the previous season.

After nine successful years at the helm, the 57-year-old left his position as Liverpool manager this summer, concluding nearly a decade with the club.

During his time at Liverpool, Klopp secured the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup, elevating the Merseyside club to the forefront of the sport.

Despite this impressive record, Klopp announced in January that he would step down as Liverpool manager at the end of the season to take a break from football management.

Over the summer, Klopp was seen unwinding by watching Euro 2024 or enjoying a holiday with his family in Mallorca. However, this weekend, he will make an unexpected return to the sidelines.

On Saturday, Borussia Dortmund, his former club, will host a testimonial match for Polish players Lukasz Piszczek and Jakub Blaszczykowski.

Signal Iduna Park will stage a tribute game for the Dortmund legends, and Klopp, who won two Bundesliga titles with them before moving to Liverpool, has been invited to participate.

Dortmund shared a humorous skit on Instagram to announce Klopp’s involvement. In the video, Piszczek tells his fellow countryman, “We need a coach and I have an idea, let’s call the retired coach.”

Klopp then appears, wearing sunglasses, and humorously responds on the phone, “You finally have your farewell game. Oh my god. And you want to train before the game? Are you crazy?”

Piszczek mentioned that they still needed to determine which team Klopp would manage, but the Dortmund legend appeared completely unconcerned.

Klopp confessed: “I don’t care at all. I don’t think about it until just before the game. Is the match sold out? I’d buy a ticket if I weren’t already attending!”

At Liverpool, Klopp was followed by Dutch manager Arne Slot, who has begun his tenure impressively, winning all three of his games so far without letting in a single goal.
