Liverpool rejected swap deal for €70m star that included Federico Chiesa

Liverpool have reportedly rejected an audacious ‘swap’ deal that would have seen Federico Chiesa leave the club.

Liverpool Smash Transfer Record with Isak Signing as Spending Surges Past £300m

Liverpool have finally secured their marquee signing of the summer, reaching an agreement with Newcastle for Alexander Isak in a deal worth £125 million. The move ends one of the window’s longest-running sagas and sets a new British transfer record, eclipsing the £105m the Reds paid for Florian Wirtz earlier in the summer.

The club are also closing in on a £35m deal for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, who is in the final year of his contract. Talks are advanced, with Liverpool hoping to wrap up the transfer swiftly as Palace search for a replacement.

It has been a summer of unprecedented investment at Anfield. Alongside Wirtz and Isak, Liverpool have added Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Hugo Ekitike and Giovanni Leoni, taking their spending comfortably beyond the £300m mark.

That outlay has been partially balanced by significant departures. Jarell Quansah, Luis Díaz, Ben Doak and Darwin Núñez have all left the club, generating over £150m in sales. The business model has allowed new head coach Arne Slot to reshape his squad aggressively without breaching financial limits.

Behind the scenes, Liverpool also turned down a bold proposal involving Federico Chiesa. According to The Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele, AC Milan expressed interest in the Italy international, with discussions even involving a possible swap for Rafael Leão. But Liverpool rejected the idea, choosing not to part ways with Chiesa nor to pursue Milan’s Portuguese star.

Instead, all attention now turns to finalising Guehi’s arrival, with Crystal Palace scrambling after their move for Brighton’s Igor fell through. Should the deal be completed, it will cap one of Liverpool’s most ambitious and expensive transfer windows in recent history.
